Bergamot Mint is skin friendly, sedative, cooling, and calming!
What an excellent way to enjoy the aroma of mint without the harshness of menthone or menthol. This has very low percentages of both. This mint has surprisingly similar chemistry to Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), with a high percentage synergy of linalol and linalyl acetate.
Latin Name: Mentha citrata
Plant Origin: India
Botanical family: Lamiaceae
Plant Part: leaves, unsprayed
Processed: steam distilled
Chemical family: Esters, Monoterpenols
Aroma: mint and citrus
CHEMISTRY & SAFETY
CHEMISTRY: Bergamot-Mint (Mentha citrata) is mildly cooling like other mints but is safer for skin because the menthol and menthone content is generally less than 5%. Compared to Peppermint (Mentha x piperita), which generally has 50-60% menthol and menthone combined. As mentioned above, Bergamot-Mint is chemically similar to Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) because of it’s linalol/linalyl acetate synergy.
SAFETY: Bergamot-Mint may cause slight skin irritation in cases of very sensitive skin. For external use only. Keep out of reach of children. Always dilute essential oils before applying to the skin and keep away from mucous membranes. If the oil is past it’s “use by” date or stored improperly, it may cause irritation and lose therapeutic value.
Antidepressant - can help prevent and alleviate depression
Antispasmodic – relieves muscles spasms and cramping
Anti-inflammatory – alleviates redness and inflammation
Sedative (Central Nervous System) – calming
